AKRON, Ohio — A devastating house fire that took the lives of four people, including two young girls, has affected a hometown champion.
LeBron James on Saturday said that the two girls who died in the blaze were part of the LeBron James Family Foundation’s Wheels for Education program.
“Unbelievably saddened to hear the news. My heart hurts … Our family lost two bright, bright stars,” James said on Twitter.
The LJ’s Fam Foundation also released a statement, saying their “hearts hang heavy.”
A spokesperson with Akron Public Schools confirmed the girls, ages 8 and 9, were students at Seiberling Elementary and Forest Hills Elementary, respectively. A 12-year-old girl, who is a student at Hyre Middle School, survived the fire and is recovering at an area hospital. Her condition has not yet been released.
The fire on East Tallmadge Avenue in Akron also killed a man and a woman. Another adult escaped the home and is being treated at a local hospital.
