Teens face charges after leading police on chase, crashing into tree

AKRON, Ohio -- Two 16-year-olds face charges after crashing a vehicle during a police chase.

According to police, it happened around 1:45 a.m. An officer was conducting radar enforcement on Interstate 76 West when a black Dodge Durango was clocked speeding.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.

A chase ensued, and eventually left the expressway at the Dart Avenue off-ramp.

The Durango continued onto Russell Avenue, where the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The two occupants of the Durango, both 16, were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Once released, they'll be taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility on various traffic-related charges and for receiving stolen property if the vehicle is confirmed stolen.

The incident is still under investigation.
