Coffee Ice Cream

  • 2 c. whipping cream
  • 2 c. light cream or half and half
  • 3 T. instant coffee powder
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/8 t. salt

Heat together all ingredients until coffee and sugar are dissolved. Cool and chill. Freeze in machine or follow directions for the French vanilla ice cream.



  • 3 ¾ c. sugar
  • 1 qt. water
  • 1 qt. vodka
  • 6 T. instant coffee – I use espresso powder
  • 1 (2″) vanilla bean
  • 2 t. glycerin, optional

Bring sugar and water to boil. When sugar has dissolved remove from heat, stir in coffee powder and stir to dissolve. Cool completely. Add remaining ingredients and mature at least a month.

Variation: add 2 (4″) cinnamon sticks for cinnamon Kahlua.


Mocha Brownies

  • 5 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 2/3 c. flour
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 t. baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 1 1/4 c. graham cracker crumbs, preferably chocolate
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
  • Coffee Glaze: recipe below

Melt together chocolate and butter. Sift together next 3 ingredients and set aside. Beat together eggs, sugar and vanilla and stir in all remaining ingredients and pour batter into a greased 9×9-inch pan. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 40 -45 minutes. Glaze while hot. Cut into squares after cool.

Coffee Glaze: Heat together 2 T. milk, 1 T. butter or margarine and 1 t. instant coffee powder. Stir into 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar and stir until smooth.
