Vandals with slingshots cause $8,000 in damage in Westlake

WESTLAKE, Ohio-- The Westlake Police Department is asking for information on a recent vandalism spree.

Between Sunday and Tuesday, five businesses in a plaza on Center Ridge Road in Westlake were vandalized. Police said doors and windows were shattered by marbles, resulting in $8,000 in damage. A window on a mini van in the lot was also broken.

Officers said they found a marble at the scene and they believe a slingshot was used.

There were three other marble incidents Monday afternoon. Police said a windshield was damaged on Sperry Drive and another windshield was hit on Detroit Road.

According to police, a 56-year-old man was struck in the ear by a projectile while driving on Detroit Road. He said two men in a silver, two-door car with a rear spoiler were staring and laughing at him after he was injured.

The victim did not need medical attention.
