Woman whose body was found in Richland County identified as ex-girlfriend of suspected serial killer

RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — Sheriff officials have confirmed a body found behind a vacant home is the ex-girlfriend of suspected serial killer Shawn Grate.

The body of Candice Cunningham was found September 13, after Grate led police to the house.

Richland County Sheriff Major Joe Masi said Cunningham’s body was identified through DNA.

Grate, who is being held in the Ashland County Jail, has confessed to killing five women. He is facing aggravated murder charges in Ashland County on two of the cases. The other three cases remain under investigation.
