RICHMOND HEIGHTS – A Richmond Heights police officer, shot in the chest while working, says he has the perfect shirt to help Indians fans celebrate when they watch the team play in the World Series next week.

Mike Gerl has designed a “Double Down” T-shirt to help celebrate the  Cavs’ championship and the Indians winning season.

Part of the proceeds from the sales go to the Police Wives of Ohio, an organization that helped him after he was shot.

About 10 months ago, Gerl suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He had broken ribs and damage to his right lung and liver.

Gerl, who is still off work recovering, says he is selling the T-Shirts and is hoping to raise at least $1,000  this weekend for the organization.

“They did  so much for me and I want to give back to them,” Gerl said.  “I know fans will be watching the World Series next week and this is a great shirt for them to wear when they cheer on the Indians.”

The shirts are $19.95.
