One dies after SUV crashes into bus carrying 34 passengers

HUNTSBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The driver of an SUV died after crashing into the side of a bus carrying 34 passengers Monday.

According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened at around 5:40 p.m. on state Route 528 at the intersection of Chardon Windsor Road.

James Kendall, 65, of Plainfield, Indiana, was traveling south on state Route 528 in a motor coach bus.

Robert Porter, 54, of Willoughby, was traveling east on Chardon Windsor Road in a 2004 Toyota 4Runner.

Police say Porter did not stop for the stop sign at the intersection, and he hit the side of the bus. porter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five passengers who were on the bus were taken to Geauga Hospital, where they were treated and released.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
