Mother, 5-year-old daughter killed after being hit by car in Garfield Heights

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A mother and her five-year-old daughter were killed after being hit by a car in Garfield Heights Saturday evening.

According to police, it happened at just after 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of East 131st Street and Rexwood Avenue.

The 33-year-old mother was taken to Metro Health Medical Center, and the child was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

Both were pronounced dead a short time later.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

The driver of the car that hit them is a 53-year-old man from Cleveland. Drug and alcohol use are not suspected at this time.

The incident is still under investigation.
