EASTLAKE, Ohio -- Eastlake Police Chief Larry Reik says charges will be filed by the end of the week against three sixth grade girls at Eastlake Middle School for clown threats made against several area schools.

The threats were made on an Instagram account, and mentioned Eastlake Middle School, Willoughby Middle School and South High School specifically.

When asked about possible consequences for the girls, Reik said he wanted to help them rather than punish them.

Police got the break through an anonymous Facebook message, Reik said.

He encourages all parents to talk with their children about how the threats are not a joke and will always be investigated seriously.
