CANTON, Ohio– The man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Massillon has been moved to the Stark County Jail.

The victim was walking home from the library on Monday when she was abducted near St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Massillon. The girl was beaten and sexually assaulted before she was able to go home and tell her family, police said.

Fairfield County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dennis L. Menefee, 46, of Port Washington, Wednesday afternoon. He was wanted for rape, kidnapping, assault and aggravated menacing in the case.

Menefee was moved from the Fairfield County Jail in Lancaster to the Stark County Jail in Canton on Thursday. Authorities released a new mugshot of the suspect, who appears to have two black eyes.

Investigators were able to track down Menefee based on the victim’s description. The Massillon Police Department posted surveillance photos of the suspect’s truck and a tip caller notified officers it belonged to Menefee.

Police said the 9-year-old girl confirmed the suspect’s identity and his pick-up truck.

Menefee pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 1999 and spent time in prison.  He raped a woman and left her on the side of the road in Wyoming. The victim, Cindy Lee Dixon, froze to death.
