CLEVELAND, Ohio– Safety patrol workers took a moment today to remember Trooper Kenneth Velez at the scene of the crash on Interstate 90 in Cleveland.

Dave Venziale reached out to FOX 8 News and shared the touching photo that you see in this story. It shows him and his co-workers praying for Trooper Velez.

Velez was outside of his cruiser last Thursday when he was hit by a car. He recently celebrated his 48th birthday and leaves behind three children. He will be laid to rest Thursday.

Venziale said, “Wanted to say a prayer for trooper Velez; since we can’t make the funeral we wanted to pay our last respects since we work with state police every day and all day. As they keep us safe, we also try and keep them safe on the highway.”

The State Farm safety patrol worker said they patrol the highway all day and help disabled vehicles, police and fire with accidents. It’s a service provided by ODOT.
