CLEVELAND, Ohio-- At just 8 years old, little Isabella has a passion for animal, especially those in need.
Like Chance the cat. The animal was injured after being shot in the back with an arrow last year.
"Who would do that to a little animal? Seriously,” said Isabella.
Isabella's mom said her daughter became so angry, she donated items to Chance to help in his recovery.
She also started raising money to be given to the Cleveland Animal Protective League.
Isabella’s mom, Jennifer, said, "We do lemonade stands, or hot chocolate stands and our neighborhood police department shows up sometimes and they will buy some stuff."
And it's viewers and families just like them, who are helping to make a difference at the Cleveland APL.
On Thursday, volunteers will be taking your pledges by phone and online from their headquarters on Willey Avenue.
Our live broadcasts will also feature special stories about some of the special pets currently being housed there.
Ayse Dunlap, APL director of operations said, "Homeless animals, animals who don't have anybody else to speak for them, animals that come to us through the humane investigations department that have been victims of cruelty or neglect; it really makes a difference. We're a non-profit organization and we care for thousands of animals every year and we couldn't do that without the community's support."
In addition to donating money during the telethon, you can also adopt.
The APL is extending their adoption hours from 8am until 8pm and will be lowering adoption fees: $88 for dogs and $50 for kittens.
Isabella and her mom will also be participating, hoping others will follow suit.
As for Chance the cat, he is thriving in his permanent adoptive home.
Isabella’s message to future donors: “…you have to donate. Even if it's a dollar, donate. Adopt, help, love these animals."
