EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio-- Felonious assault and kidnapping charges have been filed against two former East Cleveland police officers.

A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted DeNanye Dixon and part-time officer Gerald Spencer II on Friday.

The indictment stated the officers assaulted Jesse Nickerson on July 26 after they arrested him. The two were fired days later.

“They beat me and choked me,” Nickerson, of East Cleveland, said.

He claimed the assault happened in Forest Hill Park after he was arrested on four charges, including receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence. His attorney, W. Scott Ramsey, said all charges were dismissed last month .

“I thought they were going to kill me,” Nickerson said. “I told them, 'You got me; take me to the police station.' But they kicked me down the hill.”

Nickerson suffered injuries to his head, knees and back.

“He keeps getting awful headaches; he can’t sleep,” said Nickerson’s girlfriend, Ashley Smith. “It’s been awful."
