PORTAGE COUNTY – Two Portage County men were arrested on Wednesday on methamphetamine charges.

Steven A. Stein, 58, and Fred A. Cox, 47, were both arrested by the Portage County Drug Task Force.

An investigation began after several complaints came in about suspected drug activity at Stein’s condo on Byrn Mawr Street.

Officials said they discovered that Stein was manufacturing and trafficking crystal methamphetamine from his home.

During the search, officials found drug paraphernalia, chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine and a small amount of crystal methamphetamine.

According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, while Stein was being investigated, Fred Cox was spotted driving a man who went into Stein’s condo complex, taking a small item from Stein and putting it into Cox’s car.

The item was later identified to be crystal meth and drug paraphernalia. Cox told officials he received the meth in exchange for giving someone a ride.

Police say Cox had his 2-year-old granddaughter in his vehicle during this incident and Family Services were contacted.

Stein was charged with Illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine, Possession of Chemicals used to Manufacture Methamphetamine and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Cox was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Child Endangering.
