SANTE FE, Texas– A shy kindergartner from Texas is getting a lot of attention for his actions before school last week.

Royce Thompson was almost late at Wollam Elementary School in Sante Fe on Thursday. He was nearing the door when he heard the Pledge of Allegiance. The little boy stopped in his tracks and put his hand on his heart.

His mother, Heather Nelson, said she was urging him to go into the building when a police officer explained what Royce was doing.

“I couldn’t believe that he acknowledged that that was a moment of, you know, you need to stop do the pledge and he just did. He just ignored all the kids around him and kept doing it. And it was awesome,” Officer Cibby Moore told FOX 26 in Houston.

The boy also said a prayer before starting his school day.

“Thank you God. Thank you for giving me a wonderful day,” Royce said.

Heather Nelson posted the sweet photo on Facebook, saying she was so proud of her son.
