Mother, grandmother plead guilty to teen’s heroin death in Green hotel

GREEN, Ohio– A mother and two others pleaded guilty to their roles in the deadly heroin overdose of a 16-year-old.

Officers and paramedics were called to the Super 8 on Corporate Parkway in Green on April 6. There, they found 16-year-old Andrew Fyre dead from injecting heroin.

The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said Heather Frye, her friend Jessica Irons and her mother Brenda Frye were in the hotel room prior to his death. Summit County Sheriff’s deputies discovered Heather bought the heroin from her mother and her boyfriend, Donald Callaghan.

On Wednesday, Heather Frye, 32, of Akron, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, endangering children and tampering with evidence.

Brenda Frye, 52, of Akron, also pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and trafficking in heroin, and Irons, 35, of Stow, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Their sentencing is set for Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.

Callaghan is scheduled to go to trial for one count of heroin possession on Sept. 12.
