Akron man shoots girlfriend in front of children, police say

AKRON, Ohio– A man is in custody after police say he shot his girlfriend in front of her three children.

It happened shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday at a house on Inman Street near McKinley Avenue in Akron.

Police said a 25-year-old man kicked the door open and fired shots inside, injuring his 26-year-old girlfriend. Her children were home at the time.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Akron City Hospital.

The suspect fled from the scene and was later spotted in West Akron. He was arrested after a car chase and brief foot chase.
