Suspect in Massillon double homicide dies in hospital

MASSILLON, OH -  The man suspected of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend has died.

Shane Varner, 29, of Jackson Township, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Medical, according to the Stark County Coroner's Office.

Tara Clossman, 25, and her boyfriend, Michael Lovette, 33, were both shot on August 20th as they pulled out of Lovette's Massillon driveway with him at the wheel.

Police believe  Varner was responsible.

Varner was taken to a local hospital after surviving an apparent attempt to take his own life at his Jackson Township home as police arrived there after the shootings.
