CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Back to school time can mean back problems if you don't help your kids get the right backpack.

Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital pediatrician Dr. Richard So shared some important tips to make sure your children don't have any issues:

  • Make sure to use both¬†straps for even weight distribution
  • Make sure the backpack hangs on at the center of your child's back, not below the waist
  • Make sure the backpack is not too big. It shouldn't cover more than 75% of your child's back
  • Choose a backpack with extra pockets to help distribute weight
