CLEVELAND-- The FOX 8 I-Team is giving you a new look at last month's Republican National Convention. We’ve obtained video from the Cleveland Division of Police helicopters.
The video was just released to the I-Team after a records request.
For example, the video shows police in the air over the most chaotic scene during Convention week as a communist group burned an American flag. In another case, the chopper helped keep an eye on protesters who’d made their way from the Public Square area to near the doorstep of Cleveland City Hall.
Police radio traffic from the video indicates officers kept watch on people with masks and backpacks in the crowd.
Cleveland had two choppers flying that week. Meantime, federal authorities brought in about a dozen more. Some came in from Homeland Security and others from the FBI.
While police recorded some video from the choppers, crews also had the capability to send back video to command centers.
