Off-duty Akron officer, wife seriously hurt in crash

AKRON, Ohio– An Akron police officer and his wife were injured during a single-car crash Sunday night.

Sgt. Vince Yurick was driving his Ford Mustang on Canterbury Circle in the Coventry Crossing development at about 9 p.m. Akron police said the off-duty officer lost control and hit a tree.

Yurick and his wife, who was not named in the news release, were taken to Akron City Hospital. He is in stable condition while she is listed as critical.

Yurick is a 19-year veteran with the Akron Police Department. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. No charges have been filed.
