CLEVELAND, Ohio -- An officer with the Cuyahoga County Protective Services Division shot a suspect in the leg Monday after an alleged street robbery.
Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba said the guard intervened in the alleged incident on Lakeside Avenue.
Sources originally said the suspect shot at the guard during the ordeal. But the suspect was armed with a knife and not a gun, said police.
The suspect approached the guard despite the guard's commands to stop.
The suspect was shot in the leg. There was a short foot chase into the Galleria, where the suspect was apprehended. The suspect was conscious and breathing when the ambulance took him away, said Tomba.
The officer was not injured, said Tomba.
The incident is still under investigation.
