AKRON, Ohio-- Police are searching for a brazen robber who is now suspected of up to seven armed hold-ups this summer.
"We feel we have a serial robber," says Lt. Rick Edwards of the Akron Police Department.
Lt. Edwards says they believe the robber may be using the money to feed a drug habit.
On Wednesday, the suspect walked into a Loan Maxx on Tallmadge Avenue, brandishing a silver handgun, demanded all the money, and walked out with just over a $1,000.
Police say he strikes basically the same way each time: he walks in with a gun, where he quickly makes his way to the cash register and takes the money in his gloved hand.
Police describe the robber as a black male, about 5'8", weighing 160 to 170 pounds, with a light complexion, and brown eyes.
"We have not received any tips so far on who this guy is," says Lt. Edwards.
But the surveillance video from the Loan Maxx robbery includes clear audio, and the police hope someone will recognize the robber's voice.
As he left, the suspect even robbed a customer who had walked in to get a loan.
Perhaps the only good news is that police say no one has been injured in any of the armed robberies.
But they also think he will continue to rob people at gunpoint until he is caught.
