North Canton 16-year-old dies weeks after suffering brain aneurysm
NORTH CANTON, Ohio– Friends and family are mourning the loss of 16-year-old Zach Herrera.
The teen was found unresponsive at his home in North Canton on June 24 after returning from a family vacation in Florida. Zach, a football player at Hoover High School, suffered a brain aneurysm and taken to Akron Children’s Hospital.
Doctors there performed two surgeries, but Zach remained on life support.
He passed away Friday morning, according to the GoFundMe page set up by family friend Tim Swanson. Zach’s sister also posted this message for her brother on Twitter:
Swanson told FOX 8 Zach’s family decided to take him off life support more than a week ago after speaking with doctors.
Zach’s football teammates were a constant presence in the hospital, praying for his recovery.
“Any time you are part of a football team, especially here, we are a family. And any time one of our family members is down, we are all down,” Hoover football coach Brian Baum told FOX 8 last month.
