RNC: Flag-burning protester arraigned Thursday morning

CLEVELAND - The first of several protesters arrested following a flag burning protest appeared in municipal court Thursday.

Julie LeRoy,of Chicago, Illinois, was released on a personal bond after pleading not guilty.

She was arrested Wednesday with a more than a dozen protesters.

LeRoy said she was slammed to the ground during the arrest and is sore.

Her attorney ,James Hardiman, said he does not believe LeRoy should have been arrested.

"It was a protest," Hardiman said.

Police say two law enforcement officers, one Cleveland Police and one Ohio State Highway Patrol, were assaulted and have minor injuries as a result of the protest. Two demonstrators were arrested for felonious assault following the incident.

Police also said demonstrators refused dispersal orders and 15 arrests were made for charges including failure to disperse and resisting arrest.

Police added that no pepper spray was used by law enforcement during this demonstration. A fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire.
