Cuteness overload! The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo would like you to meet its newest addition: a snow leopard cub!

The adorable baby girl is nameless, but you can help out with that (more on that later).

The cub’s parents, Sombra and Amga, welcomed her on May 5.  She weighed a whopping 350 grams — the equivalent to three blueberry muffins.

And there’s great news: you can check her out … today!

Executive Director Dr. Christopher Kuhar says for the past 10 weeks, the cub has been snuggling up with her momma in a special indoor space that mimics what their den would look like in the wild.  Eventually, the cold-adapted animals will move to an outdoor exhibit, where they’ll have plenty of space to roam around.

This is the 15th snow leopard cub to have been born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Why is this important? According to Dr. Kuhar, there are only about 7,000 of these cats left in the wild, which is why the zoo has done so much toward conservation efforts.

In fact, in the last several years, the zoo has donated over $40,000 toward the Snow Leopard Trust.

If you’d like to help name this precious cub, you may do so on July 15.  The zoo’s staff have picked their four favorite names.  Cast your vote!  The winning name will be announced on July 28.  More information, HERE.
