Lorain man drowns near Sheffield Lake Boat Launch

SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio -- A 21-year-old Lorain man drowned near the Sheffield Lake Boat Launch Tuesday night.

According to a press release, firefighters were called to the area in the 4100 block of Lake Road for a possible drowning at just before 10:30 p.m.

When they arrived, police were already searching the water from the shore.

Mutual aid from Avon Lake Fire Department, the Lorain County Dive Team and the Coast Guard was asked to assist in the search.

Fire and police crews searched from the shore until the dive team was able to get divers in the water at just after 11:30 p.m.

The victim was found a few minutes later.

In the release, the Sheffield Lake Fire Department said it "would like to express our condolences to the victim's family and thank all the mutual aid departments that assisted in the recovery."
