ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas – A puppy is alive thanks to the quick thinking of two Arkansas City police officers.

Sergeant Jason Legleiter and Police Officer Wade Hammond were at a local Walmart for a shoplifting call. Once they arrested the shoplifter, another customer told them a puppy was hanging from a truck door by his leash.

They found the dog, but thought he had already passed away.

They quickly cut him free and realized he was still alive, but barely.

After a couple minutes, the puppy was able to stand up and drink some water and should be just fine.
