CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is saying goodbye to one of its beloved animals.

Travis the giraffe passed away Friday morning from an acute and untreatable urinary condition, the zoo announced on Monday.

“This is an extremely difficult loss for everyone connected with Cleveland Metroparks Zoo,” the facility posted on Facebook.

The zoo encouraged fans to share messages of sympathy. One woman posted a photo of her young son and his giraffe toy.

“That is soo sad to hear. Poor sweet Travis. My son, Danny, carries a stuffed giraffe everywhere with him. He calls it Travis after his favorite giraffe at the zoo. He will be missed by all of us!” wrote Katie Crea.
