CLEVELAND, Ohio– The FOX 8 I-Team has obtained a letter sent out to customers by a major downtown parking lot operator saying the company will not raise rates for monthly customers for the Republican National Convention. However, daily rates will go up to “special event” rates, and the company is still waiting to hear from law enforcement on how Convention security will affect a popular garage at East 9th and Carnegie.

The letter went out to customers of USA Parking.

Many downtown workers have been worried about how their rates will be affected by the Convention and how security will impact access to their garages and lots.

Last week, Metro Parking Systems backed off a rate increase for monthly customers it had announced. Metro decided against it after getting questioned by the I-Team.

In the letter USA Parking sent out, the company says monthly customers will pay only their regular rates, while for others “special event rates” will be “posted daily.”

President Lou Frangos also wrote, he’s been told by Convention officials and the Secret Service that they will not need to take over any USA lots. Yet there will be some “traffic flow restrictions” likely around the lot at East 9th and Carnegie “closest to all the action.” Frangos wrote, “We will let you know exactly how to access the parking as soon as we are told by the Secret Service…”

Frangos says he may not find out more about that until early July.
