COLUMBUS - Goddard's Law passed last month and is almost official.

Governor John Kasich is expected to sign the bill into law on Monday afternoon.

Goddard's Law, or House Bill 60, makes it a fifth-degree felony to knowingly cause serious physical harm to a companion animal. That includes depriving a pet of food, water or shelter, or inflicting long-term pain.

Named for our own Dick Goddard and his effort to protect pets, the bill was sponsored by Democrat Bill Patmon and Republican David Hall.
