NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina-- A family is looking for answers after their loved one was shot and killed while on vacation in South Carolina on Memorial Day.

Ben Shank told FOX 8's Suzanne Stratford that his brother, Barri Shank, 35, and Barri's wife had just checked into the hotel in North Charleston when something horrific happened.

Barri was outside with the couple's dogs at around 11 p.m. When his wife, Nicole, came outside just a few minutes later, she found him lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his back.

Ben says Barri was able to talk but did not know what happened to him or who shot him. He passed away at the hospital a short time later.

Police are looking for a suspect.

Ben says his brother, who was living in Bay Village, was a very kind person and the family is heartbroken and in a state of shock.

The family has created a GoFundMe page to help increase the reward fund in hopes someone will come forward with information.
