GOLDSBORO, North Carolina — A North Carolina woman bought a used freezer from her neighbor for $30, but when she opened it weeks later found a gruesome discovery.

CBS North Carolina reports that the woman, who did not want to be identified, found parts of a dead body inside.

The woman says that the neighbor told her the freezer was being used as a time capsule for a class project with her church’s Sunday school class.

The church was supposed to pick up the items inside, the woman said, and she was to get the freezer back. But after three weeks, the church hadn’t come to pick anything up.

That’s when she opened the freezer.

The woman believes the freezer contained the body of her neighbor’s mother, who hadn’t been seen in months.

“She sold me her frozen mother for $30,” she told CBS North Carolina. “How do you do something like that?”

The woman said the neighbor left town the day after selling her the freezer.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office now has the remains and will work to determine who they belong to.
