CLEVELAND - The Fox 8 I-Team is investigating one of the biggest mysteries surrounding this summer’s Republican National Convention, and it’s causing growing impatience among downtown workers.

The I-Team checked in with about a dozen parking garages and others looking into where people will be able to park and how much it will cost during the week of the RNC.

Drivers complain they can’t get clear information. We found even parking lot operators have grown frustrated since they can’t answer customer questions.

Parking lot operators are waiting for the feds to announce which downtown streets will be closed and when. That, of course, will determine if drivers will be able to get into lots and garages.

One executive who has been to meetings with city leaders and the secret service told the I-Team, he hasn’t gotten clear answers.

At a news conference Wednesday, a secret service agent said only that the downtown RNC security zone would be announced “weeks” before the event.

Meantime, an attendant told us the parking garage next to the Q would be closed. Other attendants told us they weren’t sure if their businesses would have any restrictions on monthly customers, or if their lots would be charging monthly customers and others higher rates.

A manager at a garage on Ontario said he’d been fielding a flurry of emails and calls from customers, but he can’t tell them much until he finds out what kind of access drivers will have to that garage during the RNC.

It may be mid-June until city leaders and federal agents reveal much more the Convention security zone and the impact.
