NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — North Ridgeville police were so touched at a grocery store clerk’s actions to help a couple from being scammed that they posted a special thank you on Facebook.

According to North Ridgeville Police Department, the elderly couple had gone to the Giant Eagle to send money through Western Union. They told the clerk, Miranda Ulisky, that they wanted to send $2,050 to Santiago, Chile.

Ulisky started asking questions.

It turns out someone had called the couple claiming that their grandson was in jail in Cleveland and needed money to get out.

Once Ulisky realized it was a scam, she called police.

Police said in the Facebook post:

“Giant Eagle could have easily taken the couple’s money and taken their share for the money order, but they didn’t. They didn’t because they employ people that care about their community. Both Giant Eagle and Miranda should be commended for saving this elderly couple from becoming victims today.

From all of us here at the PD, thanks Miranda. You are a hero to that couple.”
