CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly will sit down with Donald Trump tonight for the first sit-down interview since the Republican debate in Cleveland that created a firestorm of controversy between the two.

Kelly joined us on Fox 8 News in the Morning Tuesday for a preview of her interview with Trump.

Throughout the 2016 campaign, Kelly has been a frequent target for the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, often the subject of his critical tweets and sharp rhetoric.

Their relationship soured early on as a result of Kelly's questions as a co-moderator during that first presidential debate, and the candidate and the journalist did not speak for months afterward, instead trading barbs over the airwaves and internet.

Kelly told Fox 8's Kristi Capel that she's changed over the past few months since that Cleveland debate that started it all.

"It definitely brought me and my husband a lot closer...we both sort of felt like we were in the middle of a barrage. An experience like this shows you who your friends are and who means something to you."

Kelly said she's been asked if she feels bullied by Trump. She said she jokes about that with Trump in tonight's interview.

"The truth is, if you look up the definition of's to use strength or intimidation to extract your will on somebody, or to basically cow somebody into doing what you want. That did not happen here. Maybe the first half happened, but the second half did not."

In fact, she said many Trump supporters would say she bullied him because they didn't like her questions during that first debate.

"We don't get to paid to love any candidate. We get paid to scrutinize them and cast a skeptical eye," she said.

When she met with Trump for the interview, Kelly said he was very gracious and welcoming. But the interview did contain some awkward, tense moments, she said, that will have people on the edges of their seats.

When asked if Trump apologized to her, she said: "Well, I'll let you be the judge of that. You wait to see what happens."

Kelly’s one-hour special — “Megyn Kelly Presents…” — will air on at 8 p.m. on Fox 8 News.
