AKRON, Ohio — A black bear was spotted in Akron Tuesday morning.

The latest sighting was around 6:30 a.m.

Officers said they saw the animal near Massillon and Faye roads. It ran off into a wooded area behind a towing shop.

Police said they patrolled the area to make sure students were safe at their bus stops.

It’s just the latest of several black bear sightings so far this summer.

A bear was spotted on Applegrove Street N.W. at Lupe Avenue N.W. near a shopping plaza in North Canton Saturday.

Police searched for the animal but were unable to find it.

Last week, that same bear was near Arrowhead Golf Course.

According to ODNR, Ohio is home to a small, but growing population of black bears. If you want to keep them out of your backyard, then you should get rid of anything that would attract them to the area, like bird feeders.
