Woman dies in early morning house fire in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio -- A woman died in a fire early Thursday morning at a home in Elyria.

According to the Elyria Fire Department, the fire at 422 Greenwood Ct. was reported at about 5:44 a.m. When crews arrived, the rear of the home was engulfed.

A man escaped from the house and was trying to go back inside to rescue a woman. Firefighters pulled the victim from the front window, but she passed away. Her name has not been released.

Elyria fire investigators said the likely cause of the fire was electrical failure.

Firefighters said the home, valued at $170,000, is almost a total loss.
