WELLINGTON, Ohio - Several officers were honored on Thursday at the Lorain County Memorial Service in Wellington.
"We talk about her daddy quite often and his pictures are always on display in our home," said Holly Miktarian. She lost her husband Josh in 2008. The Twinsburg officer was killed during a traffic stop.
"It's very important to me keep my husband's memory alive, so I've kind of found it my job to speak about him. I do it to local police academies, and explorers and citizens academies, and occasionally I'm invited to memorial services."
She says every time she gives a speech, she makes sure to read the officers' names.
"Usually during my research for officers killed in the line of duty on the day of my speech, I find one officer. But on this day, May 11th, it's sad day where we lost five Ohio police officers."
Connie Smith-Buckland drove in from Bowling Green. She says the cause hits close to home after losing her father in 1957. He was a Wellington officer when he was killed.
"I mean they put their life on the line every day and for them to come out and support their brothers you know, if I can do anything to help them, I certainly will because they do mean a lot to me."
