What’s next: John Kasich addresses Indiana primary results
COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Governor John Kasich has released a statement about his future presidential plans now that Donald Trump has won the Indiana primary.
Kasich had forged a pact with fellow candidate Ted Cruz that would allow Cruz to focus on Indiana while the Ohio governor would devote his time to later states.
Despite that, Trump won a decisive victory in Indiana, prompting Kasich to say on his Facebook page that the results have not altered his plans.
“Our strategy has been and continues to be one that involves winning the nomination at an open convention. The comments from Trump, on the verge of winning in Indiana, heighten the differences between Governor Kasich and his positive, inclusive approach and the disrespectful ramblings from Donald Trump.”
The Governor has long said that he believes that he is the best candidate to win a contested convention here in Cleveland.
Kasich says he now plans to remain in the race “unless a candidate reaches 1,237 bound delegates before the convention.”
