SAUSALITO, Calif. — Afeni Shakur, the mother of late rapperTupac Shakur, died late Monday night at the age of 69.
The Marin County Sheriff made the announcement via Twitter Tuesday morning.
Deputies responded to reports of a possible cardiac arrest at her Sausalito, Calif., home around 9:34 p.m. Monday night. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.
Authorities say there will be an investigation to determine the exact cause and manner of her death.
More information is set to be released later today.
TMZ reports that Afeni was a philanthropist, having founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. She was also a Black Panther, having represented herself in court after being accused of multiple bombings, TMZ reports.
Afeni’s son, Tupac, was shot to death in 1996 in Las Vegas. The drive-by murder has never been solved.
