CLEVELAND, Ohio -- One week from Friday marks the anniversary of the day Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight escaped from a home on Seymour Avenue.

Three years of freedom the young women thought they might never have again.

Berry and DeJesus appeared on The Dr. Oz Show Friday for an update on how everything is going.

They reflected on their time in captivity and the very simple things that helped them get through some of their darkest days. Berry said she wrote poetry and watched the Dr. Oz Show, taking notes on healthy foods and what certain vitamins are for.

They also talked about the bond all three women formed and how the birth of Berry's daughter made things a little better for all of them.

In those early days, it was hard for the women to not give up hope. They were chained so tightly they could only move a couple of feet.

Their kidnapper controlled every move until their escape on May 6, 2013.
