We’ve heard of maternity and paternity leave, but what about ‘pawternity leave?’

That’s when employees get time off from work when they get a new pet. It’s the latest trend sweeping the United Kingdom, the Mirror reports. 

As many as 20 percent of workers take time off to spend with their new animals. More companies are offering paid time off — anything from a few hours to several weeks. That’s on top of any vacation time being offered.

The leave can be used to carry out training, attend vet appointments or to simply spend more time with a new animal.
