ERIE, PA – A homeowner who was beaten by the man who abducted an Oakwood woman earlier in the week has died in an Erie, Pennsylvania hospital.

Erie police confirmed the death Saturday afternoon, saying that new charges against Kyle Johnson are being considered and that he will be arraigned on those charges Saturday evening.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday in Erie. He was wanted by Oakwood Village police for abducting his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Brandi Shakir. She was found and is in stable condition.

Erie police said Johnson broke into a house on Crescent Drive in Erie and put Shakir in the basement before beating the homeowners. Two people heard screams and tried to subdue Johnson, but he escaped.

That’s when one of the good Samaritans shot Johnson. The shooting happened just as officers were arriving.

Johnson was arrested and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The female resident of the home was listed in critical condition before her death.

Police said it appears the house was targeted at random.
