Driver charged in Easter morning crash that killed 17-year-old Akron girl

AKRON, Ohio-- A Tallmadge man is facing charges for the crash that took the life of an Ellet High School Student on Easter Sunday.

Charles R. Queer Jr., 63, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to control and operating a vehicle under the influence.

Patricia N. Powell, 17, was driving eastbound on Interstate 76 near South Arlington Street when she experienced car troubles. Police said she pulled over to the right side and had emergency flashers on when she was rear-ended by Queer.

Powell was taken to Akron City Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

According to police, Queer had a blood-plasma level of .204, which is more than two times the legal limit.

Powell, known to friends and family as Tricia, was a junior at Ellet High School. She was activie in band and orchestra.
