CLEVELAND - The Fox 8 I-Team has learned how wide the investigation has grown into why a Cleveland city vehicle was spotted at a store in Avon.

City Hall says its review is administrative or internal, not criminal. But it involves the Recreation Department and the Police Department.

Last month, a Fox 8 viewer sent two pictures to the I-Team. Two men with a city van were loading wood at a Home Depot in Avon. The viewer wondered why a City of Cleveland van would be way out in Lorain County. Avon is more than 20 miles from downtown Cleveland.

Now, weeks later, the mayor’s office says the internal review involves the Recreaction and Police Departments. However, the city won’t say how. We’re told officials are reviewing time sheets and vehicle logs. The city vehicle in question does not have a GPS system, so there’s no way to track back any travels that way.

The city is also not predicting how long the investigation may take.
