Man driving stolen car in crash that killed 3 teens sentenced to 25 years in prison

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- An 18-year-old who admitted to stealing a vehicle before crashing it and killing three passengers was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday.

Thomas Smith Jr. pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault in February.

Police say that last May, Smith was drunk and driving a stolen Honda Pilot when he crashed into a telephone pole and through a residential building on Kinsman Road.

Cleveland police say there were eight people in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Three of them died.

The three victims were identified as Diamond Williams, 17, Damond Lawrence, 19, and Demonta Wilson, 13.

No one living in the building was hurt.

Only one of the passengers, a surviving 17-year-old girl, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
