MANSFIELD – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after one person was killed in a crash just before noon on Saturday.

Officials say a 79-year-old man was driving southbound on State Route 545 when he went left of center, striking another car head on.

The two occupants in the other car, a 76-year-old man and woman, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 79-year-old man driver of the first car was taken to a local hospital, but later died from his injuries.

While authorities are investigating the cause, they believe the driver may have gone around a curve too wide, causing him to go over the center line.

Mansfield City, Madison, Franklin, and Mifflin Township Fire Departments assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with the crash.
