AVON, Ohio - Avon police have released dash cam video that captured a frightening collision between a cruiser and parked utility truck.

It happened around 2:35 a.m. Thursday on State Route 83 in Avon.

The utility truck was parked near the 8200 block.

A male contractor was up in the bucket working on the lines when the cruiser ran into the back of the truck traveling 35 mph.

SR 83 is an extremely busy two lane road with a narrow berm and no street lights.

The case has been turned over to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Elyria Post .

Leiutenant Carlos Smith says there are a number of factors being investigated.

“We want to look at all of the factors that led up to the crash,” said Lt. Smith, “Including the officers speed, his driving behavior prior to the accident, and also what the box truck was doing. Was he properly equipped to be in middle of the road?”

Incredibly, neither man was seriously hurt, but both were taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.
