MUNCIE, Ind.– A photo of a stomach-turning school meal is causing outrage.

Quinesha Pointer shared the picture earlier this week, saying she got it for breakfast at Central High School in Muncie, Indiana. She said, “It’s supposed to be cream cheese.”

Another student at the high school told the Indy Star they took the green cream cheese to the principal, who then spoke with the school cafeteria staff. The manufacturer was also notified.

“I was a bit grossed out about it. It made me a bit uneasy,” said Isaiah York, a friend of Pointer’s. “When we opened it, I was a bit in shock to be honest.”

The school food services director said the cheese was within the expiration date.

According to the Indy Star, the Delaware County Health Department is investigating.

“An incident occurring does not point towards a trend, and does not point towards the schools not caring or not taking actions in an effort to ensure it doesn’t occur again. As a matter of fact, our local schools excel at food safety,” health department administrator Jammie Bane said in a statement to the Indy Star.
